HEIC to JPG
Turn iPhone photos into JPGs that open anywhere. It all happens in this browser tab: your photos aren't uploaded anywhere, and each one keeps when and where it was taken.
or drop them here
Why won't iPhone photos open on Windows?
iPhones save photos as HEIC, which keeps them about half the size of a JPG at the same quality. Windows can only open HEIC with two extensions from the Microsoft Store: HEIF Image Extensions, which is free, and HEVC Video Extensions, which costs $0.99. Without them, Photos says it can't open the file.
You can install those, or convert the photos to JPG here. A JPG opens in every app, on every computer and phone.
To stop getting HEIC photos
- Copying with a cable: on the iPhone, go to Settings › Apps › Photos, and under Transfer to Mac or PC choose Automatic. The iPhone then copies JPGs.
- Every photo from now on: Settings › Camera › Formats › Most Compatible. The camera saves JPGs, which take about twice the space.
- Without a cable: Fling sends photos from your iPhone to your PC as JPGs, with the date and location kept, whether or not they're on the same Wi-Fi. It's free, with no account.
Is it safe?
Your photos never leave your device. This page loads a HEIC decoder into the tab and converts each photo right here. You can turn off your Wi-Fi once the page has loaded, and it still works. The date taken and the location come along by default, so the JPGs sort into the right place. Tick "Remove where they were taken" if you're sharing them.
The converter uses heic-to and libheif, open source under the LGPL.
